Sosua is located about 25 km east of Puerto Plata and 10 km east from Puerto Plata International Airport. The town consists of two districts: Charamicos (west) and El Batey (eastern). Charamicos is mainly inhabited by Dominicans who make their living as fishermen, small businesses and tourism. El Batey was founded in the early 1940’s by emigrated Jews. They developed a flourishing milk industry. Productos Sosúa, a producer of milk products and foods is one of the most established of these immigrants company that still exists today. They too founded a small Jewish community with a synagogue and a museum. Since 1970, Sosúa has developed into a tourist resort with many hotels shops and restaurants, without losing its typical Caribbean flair. In recent years, many Europeans, Americans and Canadians made Sosúa to their new home and are investing in the future of the town. Many new restaurants, bars and other typical activities are created. Sosua has a total of five beautiful beaches. The crescent-shaped beach with his skin soft, fine sand and clear turquoise waters, and offshore coral reefs, on the left to Charamicos bordered by a cliff, is the most frequented beach.
